Joel’s work combines expressionistic gesture and minimalistic restraint, exploring the notion that Expressionism and Minimalism are two irreconcilable disciplines. In his work, the engagement of these two approaches provides an enduring metaphor for the ‘human condition’.

Joel has enjoyed representation with Arthouse Gallery, Piermarq and Dickerson Gallery. His most recent gallery exhibition was with MContemporary, as a guest artist, in April 2025. Joel is a finalist, for the second time, in this year’s Manly Environmental Art & Design Prize.
